“My age is actually a strength. I assure clients that I’ll be there for decades to come, guiding them through each stage of their financial journey”
Michael Lee,

As head of business and legal affairs, general counsel at CION investments, Patrick Quinn has used his acumen in legal and investment spheres to grow rapidly as a professional, playing a major role in the launch of CION’s second interval fund, the CION Grosvenor Infrastructure Fund, after helping scale CION’s private credit offering from $4 billion to $8 billion in total assets.
While attending law school, Quinn always knew he wanted to devote his talents to the business world. An internship at a major Scottish asset manager allowed him to develop a firm interest in structured investment products, a curiosity that has continued to pay dividends throughout his career.
CION’s dedication to innovation merges perfectly with Quinn’s personal ambitions, as the Rising Star is always looking to find a new competitive angle for CION’s clients to take advantage of.
“The biggest challenge, but one that can be the most rewarding, is staying ahead of the curve,” he says. “We are always thinking about what’s next, continually seeking to provide incremental value to our advisor partners that will resonate with their clients, whether through differentiated, investor first products, advisor education, or value-add advisor tools.”
Quinn describes the asset management industry as a “contact sport” that demands perpetual evolution, learning, and refinement. To remain effective in his role, he has developed a personal attitude focused on continual learning and improvement.
A defining trait of Quinn’s leadership is thoughtful approaches to every challenge. Hard work and responsiveness are essential to him, but it is the ability to anticipate needs, identify problems early, and offer valuable insights that distinguishes him as a trusted decision-maker.
Mentorship has also played a vital role in Quinn’s development. Surrounded by thoughtful and caring mentors, including CION’s founders, he values the honest feedback and deep experience they provide. This close working relationship has been instrumental in navigating both market challenges and professional milestones.
“Mentors are important not only as a source of advice, but also as trusted sources of honest feedback,” he notes. “I am also fortunate to view the founders of CION as mentors. We work so closely together that they are intertwined with my life, and their vast experience – through both market and life’s obstacles – is something that I value and trust.”
Being early in a career journey, Quinn finds it easy to relate to the emerging generation of advisors and clients, especially as the industry enters what he describes as the “third inning” of private markets.
“I think that being early in my career allows me to identify with the upcoming generation of our advisor partners as well as their clients,” he says. “We are in the third inning of private markets and being able to identify with significant events we are facing, such as expansion of private markets access, significant wealth transfers, changing investor needs, among others, helps with staying ahead of the curve.”
Quinn’s dedication to self-improvement and thoughtful leadership is the foundation of his success, and a driving force behind CION’s ongoing evolution and industry leadership.

“It’s very important to set an example and to not only inspire but mentor other females,” she adds.
In addition to her sharp marketing eye, the key to Phillips Topping’s success lies in her high-energy approach and positive attitude.
“As the leader of a team, it’s important to motivate and encourage your team members. People work very hard and do their best and it’s important to recognize these efforts. For my career overall, my attitude has been one of curiosity. The more you can learn, the better you’ll understand the business, and then the deeper your knowledge will become, making you a better team member.”

With a focus on retirement planning, Lee is able to offer long-term planning solutions to clients nearing retirement.
“My age is actually a strength. Many advisors in the industry are close to retirement themselves, which can make clients nervous about starting a long-term relationship,” he notes.
“I assure clients that I’ll be there for decades to come, guiding them through each stage of their financial journey.”
To succeed in the leadership role he has undertaken at Farther, Lee was forced to learn management skills on the job, while remaining open to feedback from trusted peers around him.
Now with the chance to work as a mentor himself, he cherishes watching young advisors succeed. Leading Farther’s advisor boot camp, Lee highlights the accomplishments of two trainees who have gone on to be the top two producers at the firm.
“Watching others succeed and knowing I played a role in their growth has been a bigger achievement for me than any personal milestone,” he says.
The values learned in his first-generation immigrant household have deeply shaped Lee’s career. He often translated official documents for his family, a critical task that left no room for mistakes. Now, Lee approaches his clients with the same dedication and care.
“I approach every client and colleague with the care I would show my own family, and I think that genuine concern for their success has helped build trust and my reputation.”
