“My age is actually a strength. I assure clients that I’ll be there for decades to come, guiding them through each stage of their financial journey”

A career in public relations isn’t for the faint of heart; rejection comes with the territory, making persistence critical to success. Forging deep relationships with journalists and clients is paramount.
While Abbie Sheridan, founder and president of Greenrose Communications, has two decades of public relations experience, she never envisioned a career servicing the wealth industry. But the community found her, and her commitment to her clients made her a trusted partner.
Sheridan’s success is a masterclass in putting people first. Greenrose Communications launched in October 2020, in the height of a global pandemic, and its explosive, organic growth speaks for itself: the firm is 100% referral-based.
“Relationships are everything in PR, similar to the financial advice business. Understanding our clients’ perspectives, needs, and goals enables us not only to provide them with a higher level of service but also to derive greater personal fulfillment from our work. And as a PR professional, relationships with journalists are just as critical as our relationships with clients. "
This commitment means Sheridan is intimately involved with all 20+ clients, ensuring her firm’s impact is felt directly by the small businesses she serves.
“We have a small, but extremely talented team. I'm closely involved with our clients because, above all else, it’s my job to ensure that the work we do meets the highest possible standards. The same goes for our team; I work diligently to provide a supportive, hands-on learning environment for our interns and employees."
Running a successful boutique agency while raising a young child is a challenge that Sheridan takes in stride. Her work ethic is unparalleled, driven by a relentless desire to succeed and an unwavering determination to overcome any obstacle.
“Our clients are some of the kindest and hardest-working people I’ve ever met. It’s an honor to represent them; one I will never take for granted."
Sheridan’s influence extends beyond her client roster. Providing a platform for women in the wealth industry is a key source of pride, and she frequently engages with female executives, helping to launch a number of women-owned RIAs.
Equally fulfilling is her dedication to mentorship. She takes joy in watching her employees—including two who were hired straight out of college—evolve and "hit their stride and grow as professionals," passing on the integral knowledge she’s gained from other women in the industry. Her journey is a powerful reminder that in the fast-paced world of communications, trust and persistence are the ultimate currency.

As a founding member of WOW! (Women. Opportunity. Winning.), an employee resource group created for all women of Ryan Specialty, Phillips Topping has long championed for women in the industry.
“It’s very important to set an example and to not only inspire but mentor other females,” she adds.
In addition to her sharp marketing eye, the key to Phillips Topping’s success lies in her high-energy approach and positive attitude.
“As the leader of a team, it’s important to motivate and encourage your team members. People work very hard and do their best and it’s important to recognize these efforts. For my career overall, my attitude has been one of curiosity. The more you can learn, the better you’ll understand the business, and then the deeper your knowledge will become, making you a better team member.”

With a focus on retirement planning, Lee is able to offer long-term planning solutions to clients nearing retirement.
“My age is actually a strength. Many advisors in the industry are close to retirement themselves, which can make clients nervous about starting a long-term relationship,” he notes.
“I assure clients that I’ll be there for decades to come, guiding them through each stage of their financial journey.”
To succeed in the leadership role he has undertaken at Farther, Lee was forced to learn management skills on the job, while remaining open to feedback from trusted peers around him.
Now with the chance to work as a mentor himself, he cherishes watching young advisors succeed. Leading Farther’s advisor boot camp, Lee highlights the accomplishments of two trainees who have gone on to be the top two producers at the firm.
“Watching others succeed and knowing I played a role in their growth has been a bigger achievement for me than any personal milestone,” he says.
The values learned in his first-generation immigrant household have deeply shaped Lee’s career. He often translated official documents for his family, a critical task that left no room for mistakes. Now, Lee approaches his clients with the same dedication and care.
“I approach every client and colleague with the care I would show my own family, and I think that genuine concern for their success has helped build trust and my reputation.”
