“My strongest professional quality is my ability to build trust and long-term relationships, whether with clients, colleagues, or stakeholders”

Throughout his career, Reed Colley has demonstrated an uncanny ability to sense where the wealthtech industry is heading, paired with the courage to act decisively.
This unique foresight has allowed him to build innovative and effective tech tools for financial advisors, making the industry titan a shoo-in for InvestmentNews’ 2025 Hot List. His wide range of achievements have culminated in his current role as president of technology at Orion following Orion’s acquisition of Summit Wealth Systems, a firm he co-founded and led.
“I don’t just listen to what advisors and investors need today, I see what they’ll need tomorrow. It’s about understanding their deepest aspirations and then delivering solutions that unlock possibilities they haven’t even imagined yet,” he says.
When advisors are searching for an effective tech stack, integration takes precedent. While many fintech providers offer Band-Aid solutions to advisors’ tech stack needs, Colley and Orion focus on providing comprehensive products which touch upon every factor of an advisor’s day-to-day work.
“Disconnected tech is the silent killer of productivity in wealth management,” he explains. “That’s why we brought Summit and Orion together. To engineer a seamless experience across every system advisors touch. We’re not patching gaps; we’re building integration into the DNA of everything we do.”
While Colley’s influence on the fintech industry can be seen through his founding of Black Diamond Performance Reporting, co-founding of Summit Wealth Systems, and executive leadership role at Orion, he says his greatest impact has come from building dynamic, purpose-driven teams that bring innovation to life.
He says, “When you create a culture where innovation and ownership thrive, you don’t just build solutions, you build momentum. That’s what drives lasting impact.”
Colley’s mission at Orion is to revolutionize the client experience through high-impact, human-first technology by engaging with advisors who share his mindset.
“I’m focused on building long-term transformation that delivers immediate impact. We’re partnering with advisors who don’t just want better tools; they want to reimagine what’s possible for their clients. When that happens, they become catalysts for progress across the industry.”
In the fintech industry, staying ahead is non-negotiable, pushing Colley to constantly improve his knowledge base. Founding Black Diamond forced the tech pioneer to understand every role at the organization, whether it be product development, data architecture or evolving tech trends.
“Leadership isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about knowing the terrain well enough to navigate it together,” he explains.
“My role is to create the conditions where innovation thrives, where great people feel empowered to push boundaries. The technology landscape never stops shifting, and neither do we. Every day, I’m learning from the exceptional people around me. That’s not humility, that’s how you stay ahead.”
