Sam Kang serves as the president of Schwab Charitable, one of the largest national providers of donor-advised funds and philanthropic services. Schwab Charitable, an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established to simplify and enhance the tax efficiency of charitable giving for individuals and their financial advisors. Kang is at the helm, responsible for setting organizational strategy and overseeing its implementation to further Schwab Charitable’s mission of promoting increased philanthropy in the US.
Under Kang’s leadership, Schwab Charitable achieved remarkable milestones, with donors contributing a record-breaking $5 billion to charities in the fiscal year 2023. This support translated into over 1 million individual grants benefiting more than 120,000 charities throughout the year.
Before assuming the role of president, Kang dedicated three years to leading the service, operations, and technology teams at Schwab Charitable. Prior to joining the organization, he amassed over two decades of experience at TD Ameritrade, where he held various leadership roles in strategy, technology, and operations.
Kang holds the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation, reflecting his commitment to excellence in charitable planning. Additionally, he serves as an executive sponsor for the Charles Schwab Community Ambassadors Team in Westlake, TX, and plays a crucial role in the executive leadership team for the American Heart Association in Tarrant County, TX.

As part of an ongoing effort to attract the best talent, Chen-Zhang has set up a system that gives younger advisors opportunities to learn and grow within her firm.
She says, “I want our employees to know that our goal is to promote from within, and with hard work and determination, they can grow to become the best versions of themselves.”
Earlier this year, Zhang Financial was ranked no. 6 on Forbes’ list of America’s Top RIA Firms for 2023. Describing the award as one of the proudest moments of her career, Chen-Zhang remains eager to continue serving her clients and building upon this year’s success.
